 Non Fiction and Scriptwriting

Welcome to my life of crime
I took the lead internationally on the investigation of counterfeit medicines and we had some notable successes. That led to my first book, 'A Sick Business-  Counterfeit Medicines & Organised Crime'.

The world of pharmaceuticals is a closed one, but the book sold well internationally and was translated into several other languages. It led to my being called before the U.S. Senate to give expert evidence on the issue.

There followed contributions to other books on the same subject, but the feedback I received led me to act on a secret and long-standing desire - to try to write fiction.

Currently (2016) I have my memoir, 'An Inspector Recalls' to publicise. Once again the feedback has been beyond my wildest hopes.

In the last three years I have found the type of writing that suits me best, without question it is scriptwriting. I have several scripts in various stages of undress, one day I hope to be able to share them with you.

            Best wishes,
            Graham

It seems to me that my life has always involved crime in some way or other, as a kid I got into more than enough 'scrapes'.

Later from within the Police Service I contributed to much of the accepted police guidance:  the British Police Service's Murder Manual;  various Emergency Services' handbooks;  the Association of Chief Police Officers'  Code of Ethics and the Police Tactics for the Transport of Nuclear Waste across Britain.

That says little about my practical knowledge of crime and criminality, so let me tell you that I served in every rank of CID and was always a practical detective.

I received numerous commendations for investigative work from different parties - chief constables, Crown Court judges, the Lord Lieutenant of London, the Director of Public Prosecutions and so on.

I started writing official stuff more than 30 years ago. Most of it was marked 'confidential' and only known within police circles. But some of it leaked out.

The Code of Ethics didn't so much leak out as chase publicity. It can still be found in books such as that by John Kleinig, Professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

I left the British Transport Police after 31 years as a detective superintendent, since which I have done all manner of things, but again I have for the most part, been unable to escape 'crime'.

I joined GlaxoSmithKline just after the start of the new Millennium. They had real problems with many different sorts of significant and challenging crime - counterfeit medicines and animal rights extremism were the most striking.
